Hebrews 12.1
Therefore,
since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also
lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run
with endurance the race that is set before us ...
I
pray that Jesus will be your hero and role model who encourages us not
to admire him from a distance but to follow him, to grow into him, and
to run the race. Thank you for your prayers for 8th Street and
especially for the many children and youth! This email now has 139

Prayer Requests:
1.
Please pray for the health of Pastor Manny of Spirit and Truth
Fellowship. He is our mentor and role model who has had a rough summer.
Pray for continued endurance in the Lord's work and much needed rest.
2.
Pray for Giles and Jesse our leaders in training and for Deacon Barbara
and Elder Mario. Pray for our leadership team to be one in Spirit and
purpose.
3. Pray for our after-school program which will start up Tuesday, Sept 8. Please, consider donating school supplies:
Copy
paper, notebooks and loose notebook paper, construction paper, pencils,
erasers, pencil cases, books, markers, water color or other paints,
arts and craft materials, even llaptops! (No crayons please. We have
more than enough crayons.)
4. Pray for our
building to be completed. You should receive an invitation to come and
volunteer your time to help paint and finish at the end of the month.
Hallelujah! This morning someone interrupted our prayer and offered to
take some people he knows to get our money back from prior contractors. -
It was a good opportunity to share the gospel and explain how we have
learned from our mistakes but look forward to what the Lord will do with
the completed building.
5. Pray for folks to quit smoking.
When people want to quit but cannot, what does that mean? May the Lord
overpower the urge and addiction.
6. Pray for our neighborhood
youth and children. Also, pray for the teenagers in our home. Our
youngest Margaret is turning 13 this month. Karen is 16 and Nathan will
be 15 next month. I think this means both Sarah and I are growing
older, too. Pray for our family.
7. Pray for the follow up on
Vocatio summer program's high school students. Pray for the Saturday
morning program starting October 3rd which will feature: SAT prep,
Business exploration, Welding, Media Arts, and Robotics. Robotics needs
extra funding and very committed students! Pray for good enrollment.
Saturday morning is not the most attractive time for extra classes.
8.
Pray for the teams that came to volunteer for Vocatio's high school
summer program and ESPM summer camp. Most all were Korean-Americans and
participated in black history classes taught by Temple Ph.D. student
Jesse Curtis. Some were spiritually convicted by the class and
confessed their ignorance and flawed views. Jesse mentioned how
privileged he himself felt: "You might wonder why a white guy like me
gets to teach Black History to a bunch of Koreans..." Looked like God's
grace to me.
